My Story

I’m a third year teacher in Kentucky who teaches 9-12th grade Conceptual Progressions of Science, Marine Biology, Oceanography, and Forensics.

I grew up in a small college town in southwest Ohio watching “Bill Nye the Science Guy” with my father, who is a horticulturist. A love for science and a love for education are common themes in my family. After high school, I attended Miami University (Ohio), where I received my B.S. in Earth/Life Science Secondary Education.

During my time at Miami, I was the social activism chair for the campus feminist organization FWord (Feminists Working on Real Democracy), a member of the Urban Teaching Cohort, and a Resident Assistant in my residence hall. All 3 of these experiences led to me developing a passion for including social justice education in science, which is typically a content you wouldn’t see social justice in.

I hope to use my site to spread that passion to make this world a more just place, one classroom at a time.

In my free time, I enjoy gardening, cuddling with my dog, taking care of my newborn son, and reading non-fiction books. I am currently reading The Demon-Haunted World: Science as a Candle in the Dark by Carl Sagan.
